GParted News


The GParted team is proud to announce a new stable release of GParted Live.

This live image contains GParted 0.25.0 which adds fine progress indicators for checking and resizing ext2/3/4 partitions and for resizing NTFS partitions. Also included is improved Linux Software RAID member detection and file system clearing.

Items of note include:
  • Based on the Debian Sid repository (as of 2016/Jan/19)
  • Replaced i586 live image with i686 (due to change in Debian repository)
  • Linux kernel updated to 4.3.3-5.
This release of GParted Live has been successfully tested on VirtualBox, VMware, BIOS, UEFI, and physical computers with AMD/ATI, NVidia, and Intel graphics.

NOTE: If mouse cursor is not visible when GParted is running, then use the menu key to open a new terminal window. The mouse cursor should be visible again. See also GParted Live Manual - Working with Keyboard Only.

The big news with this GParted release is the addition of progress bars for checking and resizing ext2/3/4 partitions and for resizing ntfs partitions. Other changes include bug fixes and language translation updates.

Key changes include:
  • Add progress bar during additional ext2/3/4 and ntfs operations
  • Enhance SWRaid member detection and file system clearing
  • Always use blkid file system detection before libparted

The GParted team is pleased to announce a new stable release of GParted Live.

This release includes GParted 0.24.0 which detects ZFS file systems, recognizes NVMe devices, prevents a hang when labelling fat16/32 file systems if illegal characters in label, and prevents a core dump if invalid or non-existent device paths are passed on the command line.

Items of note include:
  • Based on the Debian Sid repository (as of 2015/Oct/28)
  • Linux kernel updated to 4.2.0-1
  • Fixed vi entry in right-click Editors menu (bug 755602)
  • Added zerofree (bug 753446), efibootmgr (bug 754587), and ddrescue (bug 750240) to live image

This release of GParted includes enhancements, bug fixes and language translation updates.

Key changes include:
  • Display list of Logical Volumes in Partition Information dialog
  • Add ZFS file system detection
  • Add recognition of NVME devices
  • Prevent hang labeling FAT16/32 if illegal chars in label
  • Avoid core dump if invalid or non-existent device on command line

Thanks to Jan Claeys, the GParted forum software has been moved to a new virtual private server and the software upgraded.

The new forum should have improved support for small screens (e.g., smart phones). If you encounter any problems then please let us know so that we can investigate.

This release includes GParted 0.23.0 which permits naming a GPT partition on creation, displaying the serial number in device information panel, and preventing a user interface hang when resizing FAT16/32, HFS and HFS+ file systems.

  • Linux kernel updated to 4.1.3-1

  • Add partition name to create dialog and enable online naming
    (relevant for GPT partitioned disk)
  • Show serial number in device information
  • Add support for btrfs set new file system UUID
  • Prevent UI hang when resizing FAT16/32, HFS and HFS+ file systems
