GParted News


The GParted team is pleased to announce a new stable release of GParted Live.

This release includes GParted 0.26.1, patches for libparted for FAT file system operations, and other improvements.

Items of note include:
  • Based on the Debian Sid repository (as of 2016/Jun/14)
  • Linux kernel updated to 4.6.1-1
  • Includes GParted 0.26.1 which:
    • Ensure boot loaders work on ext4 < 16 TiB by using 32bit feature
    • Fix core dump crash in OperationDelete::get_partition_new()
  • Includes patched version of libparted which fixes:
  • Includes official e2fsprogs 1.43 release (bug 766693)
This release of GParted Live has been successfully tested on VirtualBox, VMware, BIOS, UEFI, and physical computers with AMD/ATI, NVidia, and Intel graphics.

NOTE: VirtualBox workarounds: To boot in BIOS mode choose GParted Live "KMS mode", and to fix window manager issues right-click desktop and choose "fluxbox menu -> Restart". See Bug 761343 - GParted LiveCD won't start on VirtualBox... except with EFI enabled.

13 June 2016: GParted 0.26.1

This release of GParted ensures creation of 32bit ext4 partitions when the size is less than 16 TiB. This improves compatibility with existing boot loaders. Also included are bug fixes and language translation updates.

Key changes include:
  • Ensure boot loaders work on ext4 < 16 TiB by using 32bit feature
  • Fix core dump crash in OperationDelete::get_partition_new()

Due to an issue discovered with the boot "To RAM" option, the GParted team has released another stable version of GParted Live.

This release includes GParted 0.26.0, patches for libparted for FAT file system operations, and other improvements.

Items of note include:
  • Based on the Debian Sid repository (as of 2016/May/05)
  • Linux kernel updated to 4.5.2-1
  • "To RAM" option failed, so reverted to older version of busybox. Ref: Bug 823323

  • Includes GParted 0.26.0 which:
    • implements read-only LUKS support
    • adds progress bars to NTFS, XFS, and EXT2/3/4 file system copy methods
    • fixes operations sometimes fail with "No such file or directory"
  • Includes patched version of libparted which fixes:
  • Disabled hotkey ALT+F5 to avoid killing program accidentally (bug 703400)
  • Added netsurf web browser ca certicates (bug 763976).

26 April 2016: GParted 0.26.0

This release adds read-only support for LUKS encrypted file systems. GParted identifies these with the addition of "[Encrypted]" and can show the file system within an open LUKS encrypted mapping. However this release can not open or close the LUKS encryption and can not modify the encrypted file system within. Other changes include bug fixes and language translation updates.

Key changes include:
  • Implement read-only LUKS support
  • Add progress bars to NTFS, XFS, and EXT2/3/4 file system copy methods
  • Fix operations sometimes fail with: No such file or directory

This live image adds a graphical calculator and updates packages. In addition a problem with the mouse cursor being invisible on some computers, such as the Acer Aspire One, has been addressed.

  • Linux kernel updated to 4.3.5-1
  • Testdisk partition recovery tool updated to v7.0
  • Calcoo graphical calculator added

This live image contains GParted 0.25.0 which adds fine progress indicators for checking and resizing ext2/3/4 partitions and for resizing NTFS partitions. Also included is improved Linux Software RAID member detection and file system clearing.

  • Based on the Debian Sid repository (as of 2016/Jan/19)
  • Replaced i586 live image with i686 (due to change in Debian repository)
  • Linux kernel updated to 4.3.3-5.

NOTE: If mouse cursor is not visible when GParted is running, then use the menu key to open a new terminal window. The mouse cursor should be visible again. See also GParted Live Manual - Working with Keyboard Only.
